Summer took us to the very beautiful Sussex, which I have only , in the last couple of years, discovered and I am totally loving exploring it. . Bonkers Brighton, Hastings and Rye are all lovely and Lewes is fast becoming a favourite place to be.
There are many want to see, places on my list.
I obviously knew about Great Dixter and Christopher Lloyd, I have read about him and watched him on the tv, but I had never really thought about visiting whilst there, what with my geography knowledge being dodgy, I didn’t realise that it was close by.
However, …. I was informed by a reliable source, that it was their plant fair and it was a bit of a must see, so off we went.
Oh my days … what a place.
I am sure that you already know, but Dixter was the family home of gardener and writer Christopher Lloyd. - it was the beloved focus of his energy and enthusiasm, and fuelled over 40 years of books and articles
It is one of those really special, slightly unruly , very very beautiful places. Where you can get lost for hours, exploring the many hidden away places, sunken gardens, and buildings ….. that feeling were you are discovering something which nobody else knows about.
It is a magical place … it blew us away .
if you are ever close by then it really should be on your must see list, especially on Plant Fair day.
Oh, and if you are peckish, then The Ram in Firle (near the very gorgeous Charleston farmhouse) is quite gorgeous and delicious and has great gins which is always important.
With love xx
